What is punch needle?

Punch needle is a versatile yet simple embroidery technique which can be used for creating unique designs and modern products on a great number of fabrics. The technique was originally developed in the USA from the rug hooking technique. The punch needle is a hollow decorative stitching needle with which the thread is hooked onto the fabric from the top. This creates loops on the back side, in which the height of the loop is determined by the height of the needle.

If you’d like to master this technique,
visit one of our workshops or book a private class.

World Punch Needle Rug Hooking Day has been celebrated in the United States every year since 2010. Lovers of the Oxford Punch Needle chose this day, on which those who have incorporated this technique into their everyday lives, as well as those who are yet to master it come together to share their thoughts and experiences with each other. In the last ten years, it has become an international event, and since 2019, Hungary is now on the world map of punch needle, which is why in April this year, we’ll be welcoming our guests at AnnaKamadar Studio. Join us, bring your own works and show them to everyone! Take a look at the Studio’s library and read some of today’s international punch needle literature. In case you are only getting to know this technique, you can create the symbol of World Punch Needle Rug Hooking Day. If you are more experienced, you can experiment with different sizes of needles, backings, a variety of different yarn, or even wool strips. Come and celebrate with us, we are looking forward to seeing you! This time, the education is free of charge, as we are celebrating.
